DIMENSION 5

New release: Dimension 5. Kino Lorber has been adding great spy films and cliffhanger serials to their Blu-ray roster over there past couple of years. What at first seemed to be a mere expansion of their attention to classic silent films, with the release of early French crime serials Fantomas and Les Vampires, Kino has been moving into serials like Captain Marvel and, to the delight of Spy Vibers, Cold War espionage titles like the OSS 117 series (a must-have box set). In September, Kino released Dimension 5, a time-traveling spy yarn from 1966 starring Jeffrey Hunter (Star Trek), Grace Nuyen (The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I Spy), and Harold Sakata (Goldfinger, The Poppy is Also a Flower). From the press release: "Newly Re-mastered from a 4K Scan by Paramount Pictures Archives! From the depths of the fifth dimension comes one of the most amazing spy thrillers of all time! Justin Power (Jeffrey Hunter, A Kiss Before Dying), an American intelligence agent, aided by Kitty (France Nuyen, Diamond Head), a Chinese-American female agent is in a desperate race against time to save Los Angeles from atomic destruction. Using a time-traveling belt, the duo battles an evil organization lead by Big Buddha (Harold Sakata, Oddjob of Goldfinger) with plans to import the bomb and destroy the city of angels. Franklin Adreon (Cyborg 2087) directed this one-of-a-kind Sci-Fi thriller written by Arthur C. Pierce (The Navy vs. the Night Monsters) and wonderfully shot by Alan Stensvold (Thunder Road)." Check out Hank Reineke's review of the film at Cinema Retro.
