New release: Classic 1960s spy series Mission Impossible is coming to Blu-ray! Paramount has produced an HD box set collecting the complete MI series, which originally aired between 1966-1973. Sporting an incredibly dynamic title sequence with Lalo Schifrin's famous theme, the show always stood out to me as a unique cocktail of espionage, heist suspense, and a focus on team, infiltration, sabotage, and misdirection, rather than on a solo action-hero and pistols. So it's slightly surprising to see the graphic design of the box -actor Greg Morris running with a gun- chosen, I assume, to appeal to a broad audience and to viewers reaching the show via the action-film franchise. Regardless, the original series is must-see 60s spy adventure! The set includes all 171 episodes from seven season across 46 Blu-ray discs. From the press release: "Be there for the legendary missions that started it all! The original, Emmy-winning series that gave rise to a blockbuster franchise debuts on Blu-ray in a 46-disc set that includes all 171 unforgettable episodes. In this iconic TV drama, the “Impossible Missions Force” consists of extraordinary spies who are experts in their fields: the Lead Agents (Steven Hill and Peter Graves), the Tech Expert (Greg Morris), The Muscle (Peter Lupus), The Master of Disguise (Martin Landau), Paris (Leonard Nimoy), Dana Lambert (Lesley Warren), The Doctor (Sam Elliott) and The Femme Fatale (Emmy winner** Barbara Bain). Every day, this elite force risks failure, capture and death... but nothing is more important than their mission." Your mission, should you choose to accept it, will be released on December 1st. Currently the lowest price ($78.99) is on Deep Discount, where buyers can also apply a 10% discount (look for offer codes on their site). Also available from Amazon. Enjoy!
