SYLVIA ANDERSON FASHION

Women's History Month continues with a brief look at one of my favorite designers and creators from the 1960s, Sylvia Anderson. Working with husband Gerry, Sylvia defined the futuristic fashion of Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO, and many other programs. She was one of the early adopters of the Space-Age look, dressing her characters in cutting-edge synthetic fabrics and embracing iconic elements like silver outfits, boots, mini skirts, customizable garments, transparent helmets and visors, and Nehru jackets. Anderson also provided the voice of Thunderbirds agent Lady Penelope. Born on March 27th, 1927, Spy Vibe wishes her many happy returns! Below are video interviews about design and a portfolio of some of her creations. Enjoy! Learn more: Being Lady Penelope, My Fab Years, Filmed in Supermarionation. Trivia alert: The actress in the final image from UFO below, Wanda Ventham, is Benedict Cumberbatch's mother. Related posts: Trina Robbins interview, Catsuits.
