The big news for spy fans today is the official announcement of the next James Bond film. Director Sam Mendes (Skyfall) and Barbara Broccoli held a press conference on the Bond set at Pinewood to reveal some details about 007's new adventure. The project will be titled Spectre- exciting news for long-time Bond fans and fans of the original literary Bond by Ian Fleming. Unseen since Blofeld's last major appearance in Diamonds Are Forever, we're all looking forward to seeing SPECTRE's return and hope this also means the return of Blofeld himself to the Bond franchise. More on that as details are announced! Mendez will be working with the same writing team as Skyfall (see my review here), which should promise a continuation of excellent character development and theme. The returning cast will include Craig as Bond, Fiennes as M, Whishaw as Q, Naomi Harris as Moneypenny, and Rory Kinnear as Bill Tanner. Guest stars to this core ensemble will be Christoph Waltz, Monica Belucci, Lucia Sciarra, David Bautista, Lea Seydouz, and Andrew Scott. They also announced that the producers were able to work in partnership with Aston Martin to design the new DB10! The movie will apparently be shot on film by Hoyte van Hotema, whose excellent work was see in Tinker, Talior, Soldier, Spy, HER, and Interstellar. The teaser poster below has thrilled fans around the world today with its apparent connection to On Her Majesty's Secret Service, which famously ended with a similar image marking the death of Bond's wife at the hands of Blofeld. Could the new film finally be a continuation (or new version) of this storyline and/or tone? The design, with its cracked glass around a bullet hole, also includes a wonderful nod to the SPECTRE octopus logo. Stay tuned for updates as they are revealed. See today's press conference below. And welcome back, Mr. Bond!
