007 MANGA
New release: James Bond Manga. Takao Saito (Golgo 13) adapted four Ian Fleming titles for the Japanese comic (manga) market during the 1960s spy boom, covering material from Live and Let Die, Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and The Man With the Golden Gun. Serialized in one of the top boy's magazines, Saito's stories were then collected in paperback editions in the late 1960s and again in the 1980s. The books have been highly collectible and often fetch premium prices. Fans have wondered for decades if these elusive comics would ever again see the light of day. I'm happy to report our time has finally come! The set has been reprinted in Japan in paperback form. The jacket designs sport the new Ian Fleming Publications 007 logo. As they appear to be officially licensed reprints, many of us are hoping English translations will be planned for future release in the style of Jiro Kuwata's Batman series. I was so thrilled to hear this news a couple of weeks ago from fellow agent Jhalal Drut. Even with my collection of Japanese James Bond and Man From U.N.C.L.E. books, I had only collected one original Saito manga due to cost. Now we can all afford to see his comic book vision of Fleming's secret agent! My sister site Double O Section ordered copies of the set and has already posted a wonderful historical overview and review HERE. Spy Vibers can purchase the four manga editions from CD Japan and Amazonjp. Now with Saito's 007 back in print, I wonder if we'll see new editions of other 1960s manga such as Green Hornet and Saito's Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Napoleon Solo). Enjoy!
