Spy Vibers, make sure Richard Sala is on your radar. Sala is the maestro of macabre mystery and his graphic novels weave a wicked cocktail of elements from the worlds of Pulp, horror, thrillers, spies, and cliffhanger serials. Yes, the work is just that cool! And if I had to take only a few books to a desert island, I'm sure my stack would include some of these gems. A number of Sala's books, including some long out-of-print titles are now available on Comixology as eBooks (does one say eComic?), including Black Cat Crossing, Hypnotic Tales, In a Glass Darkly, Violenzia, and one of my favorite books ever, The Chuckling Whatsit. See Comixology for details. Like to feel the actual book in your hands? I do! And I enjoy collecting his editions. Look for Sala's books at your local comic shops, on-line venders, and Fantagraphics. Also, look out for his work in a new Fantagraphics collection coming this spring on Free Comic Book Day. I've interviewed and featured Richard Sala a number of times here in the Spy Vibe lair, where we've chatted about everything from Dr Mabuse and Bond villains to Dick Tracy and Emma Peel- he's a local hero!
