SYLVIA ANDERSON R.I.P.

The Spy Vibe world lost another great this week. Sylvia Anderson, co-creator with Gerry Anderson) of classic series like Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90, UFO, and Space 1999, died at the age of eighty-eight. In addition to voicing stylish spy Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds, Anderson was an integral creative force in all of their projects, often contributing to character development and to the fashion design that made their Century 21 productions so groundbreaking and influential. She was one of the early adopters of the Space-Age look, dressing her characters in cutting-edge synthetic fabrics and embracing iconic elements like silver outfits, mod boots, mini skirts, customizable garments, transparent helmets and visors, Nehru jackets, and Mondrian/Laurent-inspired gear. Sylvia Anderson helped define well-dressed adventure in the 1960s. Spy Vibe sends condolences to Sylvia's family and to fellow fans around the world. More info at Fanderson.
