GAIMAN MCGINNIS PROJECT

Breaking news! Neil Gaiman, the prolific and poetic writer behind The Sandman, Neverwhere, American Gods, Stardust, The Graveyard Book, Coraline (and even some Doctor Who!) made an exciting announcement on his blog this week. Like many of us Spy Vibers, Gaiman has a love for vintage book designs. He apparently collected paperbacks as a kid and had a copy of Ian Fleming's Diamonds Are Forever. His edition was the 1970s reprint with the Robert McGinnis poster art on the cover. During a recent conversation with his editor at William Morrow, Gaiman was lamenting the loss of that golden age when paperbacks were wrapped in glorious artwork. As the conversation continued, the two then cooked up a plan to reprint Neil's books in mass market paperback editions with retro covers! The writer then stumbled across the Robert McGinnis art book (see Spy Vibe's post here) at a shop and was inspired to invite McGinnis (now 90 years old) out of retirement to paint all of the covers for the new series. His answer was amazing- Mcginnis said yes! I'm so pleased for Neil. American Gods will be the first book in his collaboration with Robert McGinnis and it's now available for order from Amazon and AmazonUK. Congratulations, Neil! I hope I finally get to see you at your speaking event in Santa Rosa next year. And a warm welcome back to Robert Mcginnis! I can't wait to see the rest of the series. Spy Vibers can read the full story over at Neil's blog here. Once I place my Miki ZERO novel with a publisher, I hope we can also capture some of the magic of vintage design. Below: 10th anniversary edition of American Gods and 1971 Pan edition of Ian Fleming's Diamonds Are Forever. Enjoy!
