SEBASTIAN 1968
Continuing their efforts to resurrect lost soundtracks, Screen Archives Entertainment and Intrada have announced the release of Jerry Goldsmith's score to Sebastian, a 1968 spy film starring Dirk Bogarde. From SAE: "Cool disc for Jerry Goldsmith fans! World premiere
1968 release in any format of complete original soundtrack from 1968 mod-era
spy tale set within British Intelligence, directed by David Greene, starring
Dirk Bogarde, Susannah York, Sir John Gielgud. World of then-high tech
computers, soaring IQ's, secret codes and staff of crackerjack decoders
captured by composer with meld of snappy rhythm, cool melody. Main theme,
rooted firmly in major key, remains one of Goldsmith's most infectious. In
balance is richly expressive trumpet line for more romantic side of tale.
Mystery, suspense also plays solid role, especially in latter cues. Entire
score presented from mono elements as heard in picture, courtesy Paramount
Pictures. CD also offers cool extra treat! After exhaustive search, actual
multi-track stereo masters for original 1968 Dot label album surface, courtesy
UMG and Geffen, allowing first ever licensed release on CD. Stunning audio
quality allows terrific presentation of classic record made by Goldsmith (and
Dot producer Tom Mack) way back when! While a mere 25 minutes long, their album
encapsulated major thematic material beautifully. And another extra! Intrada CD
offers unused Tristram Cary music, including variety of Sputnik Code sequences,
all in stereo, all courtesy Tristram Cary estate. Flipper cover allows choice
of original Dot artwork, film campaign. Definitely a must for groovy sixties
soundtrack fans. Jerry Goldsmith conducts. Intrada Special Collection available
while quantities and interest remain!"
