TRUE GENTLEMAN

In this brief clip from a 1986 interview, Patrick Macnee talks about how living outside the UK gave him perspective when building the John Steed character for The Avengers. Beginning in the 1950s, Macnee spent much of his time in Canada, and later, in the US. If Spy Vibers have ever lived abroad, you probably remember learning as much about your own country viewing your homeland from afar as an ex-pat (my pun). In an amusing moment during the interview, Macnee mimics the stereotypical mannerisms of the English gentleman and shows how such an approach would never have worked for the series, and in true Patrick form, shows how such a character wouldn't have been able to relate to the women. Ever kind and chivalrous! Happy Sunday, Spy Vibers!
