OP ART CONTINUES

As fashion and depiction of the human form were distilled to their basic geometric shapes in the 1960s, it was only a short stretch to introduce Op Art into the graphic concepts of the era. Illusionary patterns echoed the industrial and technological atmosphere of the Space Age, and Op was de rigueur for clothing, accessories, interiors and set design. The trend has continued to influence designers, as seen in this photo spread for W Magazine from 2013 styled by Giovanna Battaglia and shot by Roe Etheridge. Although modern-day iterations tend to present vintage design in a slightly cartoony manner, I can just about imagine Elsa Martinelli here in a surreal sci-fi update of The 10th Victim. Someone want to make that? Call me. Enjoy!
