BLU BASKERVILLE

New release: Spy Vibers waiting for a region 1 Blu-ray release of The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959) can look forward to finally seeing the film in hi-def next month. Twilight Time is dropping a limited-edition Blu-ray on June 14th that will include some great special features such as commentary tracks by our friend Lee Pfieffer (Cinema Retro) and other film historians, Christopher Lee's actor's notebook and readings from the original Sherlock Holmes book, and much more! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous story gets the gorgeously gothic Hammer treatment in The Hound of the Baskervilles, starring Peter Cushing as a wry and brilliant Sherlock Holmes, AndrĂ© Morell as an unusually sensible Dr. Watson, and Christopher Lee as Sir Henry Baskerville, seemingly threatened by a ghastly family curse. Horror stalwart Terence Fisher directs, and James Bernard provides the atmospheric music. Fans interested in seeing more work by director Terence Fisher should check out his television work for ITC's The Adventures of Robin Hood and Sword of Freedom, and his many Hammer films such as The Curse of Frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, The Mummy, and The Devil Rides Out. Fisher returned to Conan Doyle with Sherlock Holmes and the Deadly Necklace (1962), this time with Christopher Lee donning the deerstalker and pipe as the great detective. The Hound of the Baskervilles Blu-ray is limited to 3,000 units. You can pre-order at Screen Archives Entertainment here. The game's afoot!
