GET SMART POP

One of the treats of sifting through the archeology of 1960s pop culture is the constant discovery of little treasures. While gearing up to make some collages of spy tv ads and listings a while back, I came across this neat series of portraits of Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon of Get Smart) by Andy Warhol. Apologies to Get Smart collectors, who have probably had this on their radar for 50 years, but these are quite cool additions to my inner landscape of mod spy imagery from the period. These ran originally in the March 5th, 1966 edition of TV Guide. MOD MS FISHER

The Seven Network and Every Cloud Productions has announced that their popular series Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is getting a spin-off this fall- set in the 1960s! From the press release: "Set in 1964, audiences will meet the gorgeously reckless Peregrine Fisher who inherits a windfall when the famous aunt she never knew goes missing over the highlands of New Guinea. Peregrine must prove herself brilliant enough to become a world class private detective in her own right. The series is created by Every Cloud Productions’ Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger.

“We’re very excited to tell our legion of Australian and international fans that we’re expanding the world of Miss Fisher into the fabulous era of the 1960s. The series will be full of the usual three F’s our fans have come to expect - feminism, fashion and fun!” Fiona says. “Ms Fisher, next generation, will be as glamorous as her aunt, brandishing her signature pearl-handled pistol and bantering endlessly with the main man in her life - but her stylish apartment, her sleek sports-car and her cutting-edge wardrobe have certainly moved with the times,” Deb Cox adds. Author of the original Phryne Fisher Books, Kerry Greenwood, is delighted. “To see fabulous Phryne inspire a whole new generation of murder mysteries and for the Fisher family to expand in this way gives our lovely fans even more of what they crave. PRISONER PRINT

New release: Spy Vibers looking to add some art to their secret lairs might want to get ready to pounce on this limited-edition Prisoner print by Paul Mann. From the press release: "To celebrate 50 years since it first aired in the U.S, Vice Press are excited to have worked with legendary poster artist Paul Mann an on officially licensed, limited-edition print for the 60’s television classic The Prisoner. Vice Press will be releasing “The Prisoner” by Paul Mann on Friday the 27th of July exclusively at Vice Press." The print measures 50x70 cm. Hand-numbered edition of only 150. £40 (Roughly $50). Nice color scheme and ensemble iconic Portmeirion sites (Atlas, the Dome, ) and memorable characters portrayed by Patrick McGoohan, Leo McKern, Angelo Muscat, Annette Andre (It's Your Funeral), and Rosalie Crutchley (Checkmate). Although it looks cool overall, there have been some comments about a few elements. The Dome color appears to be from a modern reference, rather than as it appeared in the show- green. And McGoohan's hair appears to be parted on the wrong side, perhaps from an inverted source photo?
