007 PROMO EVENT

The new James Bond novel by Anthony Horowitz, Forever and a Day, will be released tomorrow in the UK. To celebrate the launch, Penguin Random House is running a James Bond roulette game promo at Waterstones Piccadilly through Saturday. Prizes include hotel stays and special classes to learn cocktail making and secret agent skills. Free gift for players! NEW 007 EXCERPT

James Bond author Ian Fleming was born on this day in 1908! His literary invention continues this month with the release of Forever and a Day, the new novel by Bond continuation author, Anthony Horowitz (Alex Rider series). Horowitz has brought unique elements to his 007 books so far by placing the stories within Fleming's original timeline and by including previously unpublished material by Ian Fleming. His first novel, Trigger Mortis, picked up at the end of Goldfinger and featured character Pussy Galore. Forever and a Day is a prequel to Casino Royale and chronicles Bond's genesis as a double-O agent. Penguin publishing has just released an excerpt from the novel, which Spy Vibers can read here. TOM JONES BEAT ROOM

It's a holiday weekend! While others are hiking and biking around, I've had a busy day catching up with a magazine interview for my upcoming Mort Walker book and recording my next episode of the Cocktail Nation radio show (stay tuned!). The fun bonus on the day was ordering a last-minute ticket to see Tom Jones this week! For Spy Vibers who are not familiar with him, Tom Jones is a Welsh singer blessed with atomic-powered pipes who came up during the early sixties in the UK. Readers might remember him from the Thunderball and What's New Pussycat themes and hits like It's Not Unusual. I think he's maybe become even more soulful with age, so I look forward to the show. From recent video footage I've seen, his voice is still in great form. Jones turns 78 years old on June 8th. Listen to a great interview with Sir Tom Jones with (my big crush) Kirsty Young on Desert Island Discs. Tom Jones has always been such a powerhouse performer and it's fun to see early live clips.
