HALLOWEEN
Happy Halloween, Spy Vibers! It's mid-term season at school and my students and I have been super busy with art projects, college applications, and school events. This day is usually fun, as students have a costume contest at lunch and local elementary kids parade through our halls on a special trick-or-treat visit (cute!). With costumes on my mind, it was particularly cool to see a post today from the great and wise Jon Burlingame about one of my favorite shows from the 1960s, Scarecrow of Romney Marsh. Produced by Disney in 1963, actor Patrick McGoohan (Danger Man, The Prisoner) led the tale of an 18th Century clergyman named Dr. Syn, who donned a scarecrow mask and smuggled goods with his band of night riders in protest of their oppression conditions (ala Robin Hood). The series will filled with intrigue and McGoogan's trademark intensity. The Scarecrow character was popularized in a series of novels starting in 1915 by Russell Thorndike (a golden era for popular and serialized fiction). The show was out of print last time I checked. There was a nice edition included in Disney Treasury DVD tin series. Disney's D23 published a comprehensive article about Scarecrow of Romney Marsh back in 2014. Check it out here. Any Spy Vibers or their kids dressing up today? What are your costumes? In other news, my new radio segment for Cocktail Nation out of Australia will be up soon! Check out past episodes here. Spy Vibers, also please check out my new book (over 700 pages!) about one of America's most successful cartoonists. On other creative fronts, Spy Vibers might not know that I began exhibiting as a fine art photographer in the late 1980s. I haven't really shared that part of my life here, but readers might like to see some of my work on Instagram. Enjoy!
