JEREMY DUNS ON BOND

New release: Journalist and spy novelist Jeremy Duns recently published an anthology of some of his scholarly pieces about James Bond. Duns On Bond features Rogue Royale, an investigation of Ben Hecht's drafts of Casino Royale, as well as Diamonds in the Rough, a collection of fascinating 007 articles. Jeremy Duns has been an important presence on the Spy Vibe radar over the past six years. In addition to his work as a journalist for major papers, his prolific run of projects has included the first Paul Dark trilogy and the non-fiction books, Dead Drop and News of Devils: The Media and Edward Snowden. Duns On Bond is available in both eBook and paperback editions at Amazon and AmazonUK. There is also a new Paul Dark novel coming soon! More info at the Jeremy Duns website. Press release and book cover collage below. Enjoy!

Duns On Bond is an omnibus edition of two short ebooks by Jeremy Duns: Rogue Royale and Diamonds In The Rough. Both are also individually available for the Kindle. Rogue Royale: In the mid-Sixties, the James Bond films became a global phenomenon as the world thrilled to their spectacular action sequences and cool gadgets. But the films nearly went in a very different direction, with a much darker treatment of Ian Fleming’s first novel by Hollywood’s most acclaimed screenwriter. In this Kindle Single, journalist and spy novelist Jeremy Duns unearths Ben Hecht’s drafts of Casino Royale. Rogue Royale is around 11,000 words long, and builds on his ground-breaking 3,400-word article published in The Sunday Telegraph.

Diamonds In The Rough: So much has been written about James Bond that it seems scarcely imaginable there is any more territory to mine. But in Diamonds In The Rough, Jeremy Duns shares the fruits of several years of research into unexplored aspects of Ian Fleming and his universe, from lost novels and screenplays to hidden inspirations. This short ebook collects articles previously published in The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph and elsewhere. It features six articles:

Gold Dust: The secret history of the lost Bond novel Per Fine Ounce.
Uncut Gem: Uncovering the attempts to film The Diamond Smugglers.
Commando Bond: James Bond's relationship to special forces history.
Black Tie Spy: The MI6 operation that inspired the pretitles scene in Goldfinger.
Smersh vs Smersh: Comparing Fleming's sinister organisation to the real thing.
Bourne Yesterday: The roots of an unusual premise, from You Only Live Twice to wartime thrillers and beyond.

DIANA RIGG EBOOK

Kathleen Tracy's biography of Dame Diana Rigg was recently re-released in Kindle and Nook editions. From the press release: "Recently voted the "sexiest television star of all time" by TV Guide readers, Diana Rigg is best known as the brilliant and seductive British agent, Emma Peel on The Avengers. The Tony and Emmy award-winning actress is famous not only for her acting talent, but for her keen intelligence and strong opinions as well. Diana Rigg biographer Kathleen Tracy reveals the fascinating professional and personal life of this rebellious, outspoken icon of feminism- from her childhood in India and early days with the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London to her tenure on The Avengers, her role in the Bond film On Her Maiesty's Secret Service and her distinguished stage career." Critics have often mentioned the book relies heavily on published interviews, but unless readers have already synthesized Rigg's coverage in the media, Tracy provides a pretty handy introduction to one of the most important artists in Spy Vibedom. Originally published in 2004, you can now pick up the eBook for a low $6.99. THE SAINT LIBRARY

The original adventures of The Saint have returned in a massive publishing project by Hodder & Stoughton (Mullholland UK imprint). A complete library collection by Leslie Charteris was released in paperback between April, 2013 and February, 2014, and will be available in Ebook editions from Thomas & Mercer on Amazon starting March 18th. As described on the Charteris website,  Simon Templar (The Saint) is the "Robin Hood of modern crime: he robs from the evil and heartless rich, and gives to the wronged and deserving poor- in the process, keeping a percentage for his own expenses. He doesn't work for the law, the government, or anyone else. He is a lone wolf, but he doesn't hesitate to team up or collaborate with anyone, including official agencies, when the need arises. He is also a romantic who believes in the excitement of living." Charteris wrote fifty Saint novels and collections. The character also appeared in many continuation stories, films, radio shows, comic strips, and notably a 1960s TV series starring Roger Moore. I loved reading these novels as a kid. The Moore series imprinted a wonderful image in my mind of the ideal jet-setter and adventurer for the space age. I was also intrigued to learn there were Saint Clubs for boys during the mid-century. In my imagination, groups of good-hearted Bowery Boys met in cellar gymnasiums to read the exploits of Simon Templar and to practice boxing and archery. I was never one to join clubs as a kid, but this image of brotherly Saint fans really appealed to me. I'm excited to see this library of novels return to bookshelves and win over new readers. Enjoy! Learn about The Saint: The Saint: A Complete History, George Sanders Saint Collection, The Saint seasons 5 & 6 streaming on Amazon, The Saint radio show starring Vincent Price, and The Saint.org website.

JAMES BOND EBOOKS

What better way to spend the summer than lounging in your secret lair with an e-reader gadget filled with James Bond adventures. The timing couldn't be better! In addition to the original Fleming stories that are already available as eBooks, Spy Vibers can now dive into the many continuation novels that have been published since 1968. First up is a pair of film novelizations that I didn't expect to see adapted for electronic devices. Christopher Wood's The Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker from the 1970s will be published on June 21st, 2013. Cover designs below from Amazon.

As of today, most of the John Gardener catalog has been released in eBook format. You can now download License Renewed (intro by Raymond Benson), For Special Services, Icebreaker, Role of Honor, Nobody Lives Forever, No Deals Mr. Bond, Scorpius, Win Lose or Die, License to Kill, Brokenclaw, and Goldeneye. Gardner's remaining five novels, The Man From Barbarossa, Death is Forever, Never Send Flowers, Seafire, and Cold will be published in 2014. James Bond novels by Raymond Benson (The Black Stiletto) now available as eBooks are Never Dream of Dying, Zero Minus Ten, The Facts of Death, High Time to Kill, Doubleshot, and The Man With the Red Tattoo. Benson's non-fiction classic The James Bond Bedside Companion is also available. And if that's not enough, Spy Vibers can also download Colonel Sun by Kingsley Amis, Carte Blanche by Jeffery Deaver, and Devil May Care by Sebastian Faulks. For completists out there, Raymond Benson's novelizations, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough, and Die Anther Day are out of print. Benson eBook cover collection below from Cinema Retro.
