MYMMS LOCATION TOUR

Happy Saturday, Spy Vibers! It was another super busy week here at the Spy Vibe lair, keeping up with my art students and spending a bit too much time at the doctor's (all is well!). I got a chance to dive back into some of my photographs from the summer's tour of 1960s spy TV locations. It's an amazing experience driving through what is affectionately called Avengerland because so much of the landscape and architecture remains unchanged since those classic spy shows were filmed. Before the whole group convened for an official weekend of location-spotting, my pal Mike Richardson took a few of us around to a number of notable spots. One such place was North Mymms, with its tollgate road, church, and old vicarage. Episodes from various series used the locations, including The Avengers: The Hidden Tiger, Something Nasty in the Nursery, Mission Highly Improbable, Never Say Die, The Professionals: Lawson's Last Stand, and Department S: The Pied Piper of Hambledown. Here are just a few snaps to put you in the picture. Check out more location info at Avengerland. NETWORK SALE

Deal alert: UK distributor Network has just announced a 50% off flash sale on some of their comprehensive box sets, including Callan: the Color Years, The Persuaders (blu-ray), The Professionals (blu-ray), Robin of Sherwood, Space 1999 (blu-ray), The Sweeney, the UP Series, and Supermarionation (blu-ray). Shipping to the US can add up because of weight, so I suggest that Spy Vibers in the States try spreading their items out between a couple of orders if possible. The flash sale runs until September 2nd. More info at Network. Happy collecting! On a side note, I recently completed a successful mission to LA to see a screening of the new Man From U.N.C.L.E. movie, as well as a triple feature of 1960s U.N.C.L.E. films at Quentin Terantino's theater, with members of the Inner U.N.C.L.E. FB group. I have photographs and impressions to share. Maybe it was a THRUSH conspiracy, but I came down with pneumonia at the end of the trip, so please stay tuned while I slowly bounce back into action. I look forward to posting more about the events, as well as more photographs from my location tour in the UK, very soon! Thanks, -Jason

BRIAN CLEMENS FILMING THE PROFESSIONALS

Spy Vibers should be very familiar with the name Brian Clemens. The producer and writer looms large in our hall of fame with projects like The Avengers, The New Avengers, Adam Adamant Lives!, The Persuaders, The Adventurer, The Baron, The Protectors, The Professionals, and many others. His film credits include Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, Captain Kronos, and the Golden Voyage of Sinbad. It was Clemens who wrote the pilot episode of The Avengers and remained the script editor, writer, and associate producer throughout the show's long run. If that wasn't enough to earn him his OBE, we can also thank him for casting Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel! The British distributor Network has announced in their newsletter that they are releasing a Hi-Def edition of his series, The Professionals (1977-1983), and that Brian Clemens himself is now working to bring the crime-action classic to the big screen. More below.

From Network: "We're excited to hear that the show's creator Brian Clemens is talking about a big budget remake that will soon be gracing our screens. Clemens will be acting as executive producer on the new film which is due to start shooting before the end of the year, he spoke to his local paper The Croydon Advertiser, 'It's going to be a big action movie. The script is done and now we are looking at casting. There's some big names being talked about but it's all about making sure they're available at the same time. Getting the right people is very important because the show means a lot to the fans. It will be set in the modern day. It's a huge task to shoot a period film and you'll always get someone complaining there's the wrong sort of phonebox used in one scene or something. The show can easily fit into the modern day. To any Professionals fans who are worried about the remake, can I just point out I had nothing to do with the Avengers movie in the 1990s. The less said about that the better.'"

I would prefer to see a period film, but I do have faith in Clemens and his brilliant imagination. I hope the project is a great success. I'd love to see him go on to make a period thriller with his trade-mark cocktail of charm, fantasy, humor, and action. Brian Clemens below with Diana Rigg in 1966.
