SPY VIBE PRIME

It's a great time to be a Spy Viber if you have Amazon Prime. I wasn't very taken with this streaming service at first; it seemed a bit limited and much of the content I was interested in required an extra fee. But I noticed a shift around the same time Shout Factory picked up US distribution for many of the classic spy shows. Not sure if they handle digital rights, as well, but the results are that we can now stream a great number of cool spy/adventure shows for free! My watch list includes Secret Agent (Danger Man), The Prisoner, The Champions, The Saint, The Baron, HG Wells' Invisible Man, Peter Gunn, Mission Impossible, Lancelot Link: Secret Chimp, spy-fi cult classics like Sapphire and Steel, Gerry Anderson gems like UFO, Fireball XL5, Joe 90, Supercar, Thunderbirds, and Captain Scarlet, ITC historical action like Adventures of Robin Hood and Adventures of Sir Lancelot, Richard Carpenter's Robin of Sherwood, and even Eurospy films like Secret Agent FX 18. If you're willing to pay a small fee, you can also see episodes of Space 1999, The Avengers (Patrick Macnee, Diana Rigg, Linda Thorson), The Man From U.N.C.L.E., and Get Smart. I've been really enjoying Fireball XL5 lately- just one of the super-dynamic action series from Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. The series is surprisingly cinematic and atmospheric, given that it was shot with marionettes in a small makeshift studio (I visited the little building, which is now a tire garage). I'm continually surprised and delighted by the sheer inventiveness and imagination of that team of creators! By the way, fans in the States can subscribe again to Britbox via Amazon Prime for about $6.99 a month, which offers a huge library of fantastic shows such as classic Doctor Who and Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. As long as rare content like this can remain available, maybe streaming is useful after all. Spy Vibers, please check out my new book (over 700 pages!) about one of America's most successful cartoonists: Talking Mort Walker: A Life in Comics. Enjoy!
