DIABOLIK SOUNDS

Mario Bava's Danger Diabolik (1968) is finally coming to Blu-ray in the States via Shout Factory in May (see my post) and Spy Vibe is celebrating with Diabolik week! The original Ennio Morricone Diabolik soundtrack remains one of those holy grails among Spy Vibers. A CD dubbed directly from the film (including sound fx and dialog) has floated around (with varying cover art), but I believe the original tapes are lost. In summer 2018, Morricone Youth released a re-recording of the soundtrack as a limited-edition vinyl LP, Danger: Diabolik, which is essentially an interpretation of the movie (they first performed it in 2013). As Tim Lucas (Video Watchdog) and I discussed at the time of release, some of the instrumentation differed slightly, but the vibe is way cool. Morricone Youth has released records inspired by other classics, such as Prince Achmed, Night of the Living Dead, and Mad Max. NYC-area agents should check out showtimes for local performances. Additionally, the Solisti e Orchestre del Cinema Italiano also released a re-recording of the Danger Diabolik soundtrack in 2014 on CD (as a double-feature with For a Few Dollars More -apparently this portion, at least, is heavy on reverb) and as a digital download.
