JOHN LEE HOOKER: BOOM BOOM

Here's the king of boogie himself, live in 1964. Along with R.L. Burnside, John Lee is my greatest influence as a guitarist. What a sound he had! So authentic and unpretentious. On one of our pilgrimages to see John play, he picked out one his particularly eccentric phrases. My band-mate, thinking about all the book-learned guitar guys in the crowd, quipped, "transcribe that!" Here he is in 1964 in the UK playing his hit, Boom Boom for young disco dancers.
