TAZIO SECCHIAROLI

If your vibe is 1960s adventure wrapped in Italian Mod fashion, then Tazio Secchiaroli needs to be on your radar. The photographer shot stills for some of the most prominent Italian movies of the era, including two of my all-time favorites, The 10th Victim (Elio Petri/1965) and 8 1/2 (Fellini/1963). He was diverse enough to capture the energy and spirit of each film set, but always managed to solve his pictures with great personal style. His images from The 10th Victim loom large here at the Spy Vibe lair. Readers may remember that the Blu-ray edition of the film includes my collection of stills, posters, and press materials. Here is a small sample of images from La Dolce Vita, 8 1/2, and The 10th Victim. To me, the images are like a time machine back to 1960s Rome, where Marcello Mastroianni, Ursula Andress, and Claudia Cardinale jet-set about in open-top cars to the sounds of Nino Rota and Piero Piccioni. Learn more: NY Times obit, 8 1/2 book, James Hyman Gallery, 1999 art book. Enjoy!
