THE SHADOWS APACHE

Happy Friday, Spy Vibers! Let's kick off the weekend with The Shadows! Perhaps their most well-known recording was the song Apache, which rose to number one in August 1960 and stayed in the top charts for five weeks. The band started a great groove of instrumental records featuring cool, twangy guitars and their music helped to define the sound of British pop in the early 60s. The Shadows were, of course, Sir Cliff Richard's backing band, and you can see them perform Apache in the video clip below. I've also incuded a rare TV appearance of Cliff taking the lead guitar part- Listen for him apologizing to guitarist Hank Marvin for stealing the spotlight at the end of the performance! Spy Vibe trivia: drummer Brian Bennett released an album in 2016 called Shadowing John Barry, which included covers of Thunderball, You Only Live Twice, The Man With the Golden Gun, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, The Ipcress File, and Goldfinger. Want more Shadows? Stay tuned to Spy Vibe for their appearance in Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds Are GO!
