PARTY: DESMOND DECKER
Spy Vibe wraps up the weekend party with "007 (Shanty Town)". Released by the king of Ska Desmond Decker in 1967, this rocksteady classic managed to namedrop James Bond and Oceans Eleven while essentially functioning as a protest song about a violent student demonstration in Jamaica. The tune became a top hit there and reached #17 in the UK charts. "007 (Shanty Town)" has been covered numerous times, most notably by Prince Buster, Byron Lee, The Bodysnatchers, Musical Youth, and The Specials. But the old ways are often the best. Enjoy!
