SPY VIBE RADIO: PHANTOM AGENTS

My new episode of Cocktail Nation radio is live! This month I spotlight the fab series from Japan, Ninja Butai Gekko (Ninja Unit Moonlight/1964-1966). This mid-sixties show was a cool mix of ninja action, illusions, fantasy, and spy conventions. Stories centered around a team of modern-day ninja, who battled various evil doers and criminal organizations bent on destroying the world (my fave baddie wore phantasmic light, Mod sunglasses and shot daggers out of his top hat!). Add the amazing jazz and surf guitar soundtrack by Chumei Watanabe (Kikaida, Supaidaman) and you have ultra Spy Vibe! I introduce the series and play a number of cues from the soundtrack on Cocktail Nation here. See the trailer below from the show's 1964 film to get you in the mood. I want to dedicate this episode especially to our readers in South American and Australia (hello fellow Shintaro Samurai fans!), where the program found its big dedicated base as Los Agentes Fantasmas and Phantom Agents. Enjoy!
