Greetings, Spy Vibers! Artist Josh Agle, known professionally as Shag, has been releasing hand-pulled prints of his contemporary work at regular intervals. Coming up on August 28th is this beautiful new work, Bâti Mon Nid, sporting his trademark Mid-Century sensibility and cat character. From Shag's press release: "'Bâti Mon Nid' means 'I’ve built my nest,' in French. I think it’s an apt metaphor for what we did in the strange world of the last 18 months, cocooning to protect ourselves from a microscopic invader. It’s also the name of a 1971 song by French singer and songwriter Francoise Hardy - seek it out if you get a chance. And finally, 'Bâti Mon Nid' is the name of a new silkscreen print I just finished. It will be released at the end of August by @shagstoreps." Shag often dresses his paintings with well-known designs and this one features an Eames house bird (I have one here in the Spy Vibe lair!) and the famous Eames Lounge Chair, which was first launched by Herman Miller in 1956. As the Eames website states: "A Playboy article on Modern Design explained that this chair 'sank the sitter into a voluptuous luxury that few mortals since Nero have known.'" Try it and see! If you haven't explored Shag's work, you're in for a treat. Each of his paintings feel like a scene from a stylish Cold War-era movie, with swanky designs, cool jazz, Tiki culture, and often populated by jet-setters, cats, and monsters. Spy Vibers can subscribe to updates from the Shag Store to receive info about release parties and ordering. Enjoy!
