CHAMPIONS PODCAST

Happy New Year, Spy Vibers! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I usually catch something at school and spend the breaks convalescing, but I seemed to have dodged the germs this time and had a relaxing vacation in the Spy Vibe lair. Apart from the daily walks, I think the main adventure on my radar has been a fun deep dive into Tintin and the art of Herge. We often talk about Charles Schulz and Mort Walker in the context of American comics modernizing their style for the shrinking newspaper space during the jet age, but Herge was pioneering his "clean line" approach way back in Tintin in the Land of the Soviets in 1929, a story which saw the young reporter dodging secret police and rushing through Herge's trademark action sequences. I also started to look at another Belgian comic called Blake and Mortimer, which began in Tintin magazine in 1946 and had a long run of stories that crossed between action, adventure, espionage, and sci-fi. But the real treat for us Spy Vibers this week is the posting of a new podcast episode over at ITC Entertained the World. This time Jaz and his co-hosts take a look at The Champions, a cool series which blurred the espionage genre with pulp fantasy by endowing its spy heroes with mystical superhuman powers.
